  • ICONOSTIGMA gen. nov., with included species I. tryphaena sp. nov. (type-species) and I. morosa sp. nov., is described from New Caledonia. A key to males of the world genera and a checklist of the world species of Chlidanotini are provided. The relationship of the Chlidanotini to the Polyorthini and Hilarographini is discussed, with particular reference to Iconostigma. Possibly, the hair-pencils of the 8th abdominal segment, and the invaginations in the male valvae into which each hair-pencil is inserted, are apomorphic characters which unite these 3 tribes. Panegyra Diakonoff is transferred to the Tortricini and Polemograptis flavicostana (Walsingham) is transferred to Panegyra [P. flavicostana comb. nov.]. Archimaga euplocamis Meyrick is newly synonymized with Metrernis ochrolina Meyrick.
