  • Collecting specimens of both sexes in the upper basin of a little siliceous stream (Mantet Nature Reserve, Eastern Pyrenees) on the one hand and in Neste-de-Saux, a little stream from the High Pyrenees (1780 m) on the other hand, allowed the description of a new species of the Melampophylax genus as well as of the female of another French species of the mucoreus group: Melampophylax altuspyrenaicus Botosaneanu, 1994. The importance of the shape of parameres and vaginal plate as identification criteria for the species of the mucoreus group of Melampophylax is underlined. A comparative table illustrated by four sets of sketches displays the main distinguishing features.
