  • The classification of Cupes Fabricius s.l. is discussed. Details of previously proposed species groupings are expanded and supported by characters of the male genitalia. In addition to Cupes s.s. 5 new genera (TENOMERGA, DISTOCUPES, ADINOLEPIS, ASCIOPLAGA AND RHIPSIDEIGMA are established and the total number of species is raised to 24 of which 7 are new: T. trabecula, T. kapnodes, T. favella, Adinolepis scalena, Ascioplaga mimeta, A. sciasma and R. adjuncta. The known distribution is extended and now includes northeast North America, eastern and southern Africa includig Madagascar, east Asia, East Australia, Borneo, New Guinea, New Caledonia and the Hawaiian Islands. Types of most species were examined and illustrated.
