| - For the first time, Melitaea ignasiti De Sagarra, 1926, is recorded for the French Pyrenees, giving confirmation of a new species of Rhopalocera for France. M ignasiti, recently elevated to the rank of species and known from the Iberian peninsula and north-east Italy, was adjudged by various authors to be unknown from France, but worth seeking out. This taxon has already been mentioned from the Var (83) (with a measure of doubt) in the French editions of Higgins and Riley (1971 & 1988) and more recently from the Alpes-Maritimes (06) in a taxonomic revision of the genus Melitaea by Oorshot & Coutsis (2014), but without more precise details. A search was made for the species and it was found in the Pyrenees-Orientales (66), in two warm localities in the Cerdagne in the years 2015 and 2017. A presentation is made of these records, of the habitats and of the identification criteria. Presence of the species remains to be confirmed in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region and, potentially, there are other sites to be found in Occitania by attentive searching, close examination of specimens of the genus and by looking for larvae on Verbascum.
