  • A new species of Athous Eschscholtz, 1829 belonging to the subgenus Orthathous Reitter, 1905 is described from the department of the Pyrenees-Orientales, close to the Spanish border. It is allied to A. (Orthathous) catalonicus Platia, 2006 for the general shape and size but it can be easy separated by the darker colour of head and pronotum (except for one specimen of the Col d'Ares with lighter colour) and particularly by the presence on the pronotum of a vestigial and short mid-longitudinal carina before the basal slope.
