  • Taxonomic and faunistic papers concerning European Stratiomyidae from the last two decades are summarized. The most extensive and complete data are available from those countries where recent checklists of Diptera have been compiled (Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain and Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland). On the contrary, fairly limited data are available from small political or geographical units or from some parts of southern Europe. Records for 34 species that are generally rare or faunistically interesting are given. New faunistic records are documented for the territory of Andorra (Beris morrisii), Czech Republic (Oxvcera germanica, Sargus albibarbus), France (Pachygaster maura), Greece (Lasiopa villosa, Nemotelus cypriacus, O. germanica, O. marginata), Italy (Adoxomyia lindneri, Alliocera graeca, N. longirostris, Stratiomys hispanica), Liechtenstein (0. nigricornis), Macedonia (N. obscuripes, N. signatus), Malta (N. atriceps), Portugal (N. cingulatus), Slovenia (Clitellaria ephippium, O. pygmaea) and Spain (Eupachygaster tarsalis, N. nigrifrons). The female of N. danielssoni Mason, 1989, is described for the first time.
