  • Scopaeus limbatus Kraatz, 1859 turned out to represent a complex of closely related species, which are distributed in the Oriental and the Australian regions, the South-East Palaearctic, and in the Mascarene Islands. It is here described and named the S. limbatus species group, and both monophyly and phylogenetic relations within Scopaeus are discussed. According to the present concept, the S. limbatus species group comprises S. limbatus Kraatz, S. fulvus Cameron, 1931, and twelve further species, which are here named and described, and for which distributional patterns are given: Scopaeus australiensis sp. n., S. baliensis sp. n., S. ceylonensis sp. n., S. gustavkraatzi sp. n., S. indiensis sp. n., S. janaki sp. n., S. sarawakensis sp. n., S. siamensis sp. n., S. solomonensis sp. n., S. sundaensis sp. n., S. vietnamensis sp. n., and S. weigeli sp. n.. Lectotypes are designated for S. limbatus Kraatz and S. fulvus Cameron.
