Until 2009 with the capture of a male near Chateaurenard (Bouches du Rhone) the genus Prosopigastra Costa 1867 was only known in France (Provence) from a few females whose specific identity was uncertain After providing general information about the genus Prosopigastra the authors describe in detail the male caught in June 2009 especially its genitalia and show that It belongs to P. orientalis Beaumont 1947 and so in all likelihood do the females caught in the past in this region A discussion presents the differential criteria between P. orientalis and its closest relative P. punctatissima Costa 1867.
