| - Aegus caledoniae n.sp., an endemic in the south-west of New Caledonia and first known species of the genus in Southwestern Melanesia (New Caledonia and Vanuatu) is described. By its very slight sexual dimorphism it is morphologically close to a single other species in the genus Aegus: the geographically distant A. hindenburgi (Kriesche, 1921), a species endemic in the Western Samoa. This group of species occurs in the South-West Pacific region only, and probably originated by immigration from the Malayan region followed by insular speciation events.
