Epinotia cinereana (Haworth, 1811) is announced as new to France and Italy following the results of a DNA barcoding study, and new to Austria after examination of genitalia. A recapitulation is made of the main characteristics which distinguish the genitalia of this species from those of Epinotia nisella (Clerck, 1759).
