  • The German Deep-Sea Expedition 1898-1899 yielded two species of Solenogastres which were described by J. Thiele. In addition, the Zoological Museum Berlin (Germany) also houses hitherto undescribed specimens labelled by Thiele as %22Pruvotina kerguelensis%22. Based on the one-layered solid sclerites, including distally hooked ones, as well as on the presence of copulatory stylets and on further diagnostic characters, these animals are referred to the genus Ocheyoherpia within Phyllomeniidae (order Sterrofustia). A comparison with the three known species of this genus reveals several different specific characters, including a particular configuration of the paired copulatory stylet apparatus. The specimens in question are thus defined here as Ocheyoherpia kerguelensis spec. nov. Interestingly, all four Ocheyoherpia species are restricted to the cold water regions of the southern hemisphere.
