| - The French species of Staphylinidae Scydmaeninae Cyrtoscydmini belonging to the genus Euconnus Thomson, 1859, subgenus Tetramelus Motschulsky, 1869, are revised. A neotype is designated for Euconnus linderi (Saulcy, 1863); lectotypes are designated for E. bedeli Reitter, 1884, E. coiffaiti Franz, 1962, E. fuxeensis Normand, 1908, E. grouvellei Croissandeau, 1893, E. haematicus (Fairmaire, 1860), E. muscorum (Fairmaire, 1862), E. navaricus (Saulcy, 1870), E. navaricus vasconicus Franz, 1957, and E. pandellei (Fairmaire, 1859). Four new synonymies are established: Euconnus coiffaiti Franz, 1962, n. syn. for E. ferrarii (Kiesenwetter, 1851); E. fuxeensis Normand, 1908, n. syn. for E. ferrarii (Kiesenwetter, 1851); E. freyi Franz, 1957, n. syn. for E. schiodtei (Kiesenwetter, 1851); E. navaricus vasconicus Franz, 1957, n. syn. for E. navaricus navaricus (Saulcy, 1870). Two new species are described: Euconnus allemandi n. sp. and E. dufouri n. sp. Some comments on morphology, ecology, biology and distribution of the 16 French species are provided.
