Two new species of Obainia from New-Caledonia are described; they differ from other Obainia by the relatively well developed dorsal lip and corpus. Obainia chazeaui n. sp. and Obainia neocaledoniae n. sp. are closely related to the malagasy species O. adamsoni Van Waerebeke, 1986 and to the genus Rhigonema. These new species are the most primitive of the genus and they confirm the hypothesis that the genus Obainia is derived from Rhigonema.
