| - The most common horse flies on cattle in the wooded areas of the suburbs of Cayenne are Tabanus occidentalis var. dorsovittatus Macquart, Phaeotabanus cajennensis (Fabricius) and Tabanus olivaceiventris Macquart. The main alighting sites of the horse flies are the legs, the head and the belly. The response of cattle is measured by the tail switching frequency Q. Q is, on average, proportional to the number of flies resting on the animal, T. T and Q are dependent on the date. The ratio E = Q/log (T + 1) is dependent on the animal but not on the date. Animals with high values of the ratio E are less bitten than the others.
