The body of a dead snake was collected near imported haystacks from the United States to the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia in August 2019. This animal was most likely accidentally introduced and probably arrived dead on the island. It belongs to a relatively common North American species, Thamnophis sirtalis. Even if it came in the form of a dead body, the introduction of a live individual would have been possible.
