| - Erection of the tribe Vanniini and its placement in the subfamily Palaucorinae, as proposed by Gorczyca (1997), is rejected. An informal group, the Vannius complex (Cylapinae: Cylapini) is recognised, comprised of Afrovannius Gorczyca, Austrovannius gen. nov., Paracylapus Carvalho, Vanniopsis Poppius, Vannius Distant, and Vanniusoides Carvalho & Lorenzato. Austrovannius nov. gen. is described, including three new species, A. platnicki sp. nov., A. scutica sp. nov., and A. xepenehense sp. nov. New species belonging to existing genera within the Vannius complex are described, including: Vanniopsis howense sp. nov., Vanniusoides asprokara sp. nov. and Vanniusoides melafrons sp. nov. Vanniopsis rufescens Poppius, 1909 is redescribed and the male genitalia are illustrated for the first time. Illustrations of male and female genitalia are given for the new species. A cladistic analysis of the genera of the Vannius complex is presented and the systematic position of the complex is discussed.
