| - The West-Palearctic species of Oligota MANNERHEIM, 1830 and Holobus SOLIER, 1839 are revised. 38 species and one subspecies are regarded as valid. The identity of one species, Oligota uralensicola KANGAS, 1982, of which no material was available, is doubtful. One species and one subspecies are newly described: Oligota andriukhii nov.sp. and Oligota muensteri latior nov.sp. The following new synonymies are established: Oligota convexa MULSANT&REY, 1873 = Oligota lohsei WILLIAMS, 1970 nov.syn.; Oligota picescens MULSANT&REY, 1873 = Oligota pilicornis FAUVEL, 1891 nov.syn.; Oligota picipes STEPHENS, 1832 = Oligota misella MULSANT&REY, 1873 nov.syn. (= previously a synonym of Oligota pusillima (GRAVENHORST, 1806); Oligota picta MOTSCHOULSKY, 1858 = Oligota besucheti WILLIAMS, 1977 nov.syn.; Oligota pumilio KIESENWETTER, 1858 = Oligota obscuricornis MOTSCHOULSKY, 1860 nov.syn. (= previously a synonym of Oligota pusillima (GRAVENHORST, 1806)); Oligota punctulata HEER, 1839 is regarded as nomen dubium; Oligota rujIcornis SHARP, 1870 = Oligota fuscipes MULSANT&REY, 1873 nov.syn. (= previously a synonym of Oligota pusillima (GRAVENHORST, 1806)) = Oligota punctulata HEER, 1839 sensu FAUVEL nec KRAATZ; one new binominal is established: Holobus analis WonAsToN, (1854) nov.comb. (ex. Oligota); Lectotypes and Paralectotypes are designated for Oligota lohsei WILLIAMS, 1970, Oligota picipennis MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota subsericans MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota aliena MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota picescens MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota misella MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota australis MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota obscuricornis MOTSCHOULSKY, 1860, Oligota fuscipes MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota pilosa MULSANT&REY, 1873, Oligota chrysopyga KRAATZ, 1859. All species are described and illustrated. Bionomic and zoogeographic data are compiled and the distributions of all species in the West Palaearctic are mapped. A key to the West Palaarctic species of Oligota and Holobus is provided.
