dct:abstract
  • Phytoplanktonic and zooplanktonic samples collected in Marseilles harbors were compared with reference samples from the gulf of Marseilles. Along with plankton, hydrological and pollution parameters were considered. In the harbor basins, the nutrient load indicated some eutrophication. Hydrocarbon values were high (as a result of harbor activities), but concentrations of phenolic compounds and detergents were not. The kind of pollutant load was reflected by the structure of the planktonic populations. Some phytoplanktonic species, characteristic of closed or semi-closed, and pertubated areas (dinoflagellates, Peridinium trochoideum, Gymnodinium sp. diatoms, Skeletonema constatum) were more abundant in the harbor basin than in the gulf. Zooplankton density was lower in the Vieux Port basin than in the outer harbor and the gulf. In these waters, there were large populations of appendicularians. Among copepods, Acartia italica, which was characeristic of eutrophic areas, was only observed in the harbor.
