  • As a foundation for future studies, keys to the 33 species, in eight genera, of scuttle flies currently known from the poorly known phorid fauna of Madagascar and its adjacent islands (Comoros Islands, Reunion Island and Rodriguez Island) are provided. Five of these are new to science, two are validly published for the first time, the hitherto unknown males of three species and the females of two species are described, and a further seven species known only from females are described but given code letters only until associated with their males. In the course of sorting out the species of Megaselia, M. camariana (COQUEREL) is declared to be a species indeterminata, M. pictella BEYER is synonymised with M. magna BEYER, the recognition of M. punctata Bridarolli is clarified, and three lectotypes for species previously described from the Seychelles by COLLIN are designated.
