  • Illustrations, diagnoses and distributional records are given for the 18 spp. and sspp., 8 of which are new, of the genus Stenopola and the 5 spp. and sspp., 2 of which are new, of the genus Cornops. [Stenopola flava sp. nov., S. caatingae sp. nov., S. puncticeps amazonica ssp. nov., S. p. curtipennis ssp. nov., S. p. tenae ssp. nov., S. rubrifrons rubrifrons ssp. nov., S. r. mima ssp. nov., S. nigricans sp. nov., S. tigris sp. nov., C. frenatum cannae ssp. nov. and C. brevipenne sp. nov. are described from South America.] This report on these 2 genera is the 1st part of a study of the Tetrataeniini, a Neotropical tribe of grasshoppers. Oxyblepta, Inusia, Heniola and Pseudoxyblepta are treated as congeneric with the genus Stenopola, becoming new junior synonyms. Twenty-three spp. names are treated as junior synonyms, most of which are new synonyms. Habitat information is given when available.
