  • The present study includes the specimens collected in 1985 and 1986 during the oceanographic cruise Musorstom in the New-Caledonian waters. Among the Anguilliform fishes, 12 specimens are Colocongridae, a new recorded family for the area: 8 specimens are Coloconger scholesi Chan, 1967 with big ranges of variation of morphometric proportions according to the length, the 4 other specimens, caracterised by some premaxillary fangs, a stout tegument and the pores of same coloration as the surrounding tegument, are described as a new species Coloconger saldanhai n. sp.
