| - The present study concerns the sixteen species of the Holarctic genus Boreoheptagyia Brundin known from the world. The European species are described or redescribed under their male and (or) female imaginal stage and (or) eventually under immature stages by using types and new material. Dichotomic keys for .male. and .female. imagines, for pupae and for larvae of European and North American species are proposed. Two new species from the French Alps are described: B. alpicola spec. nov. and B. dasyops spec. nov. Two new species from North America, and one from France, known only as larvae and pupae, are designated respectively as Boreoheptagyia spec. 1, Boreoheptagyia spec. 2, and Boreoheptagyia spec. 3. The genus Neopodonomus Chaudhuri & Ghosh is considered as junior synonym of Boreoheptagyia Brundin. Heptagia spec. A Saunders, 1930 and Heptagia spec. B Saunders, 1930 are synonymized respectively with Boreoheptagyia legeri (Goetghebuer) and B. monticola (Serra-Tosio).
