dct:abstract
| - In mid-December 1991, an outbreak of a psyllid hitherto unknown in Reunion was observed on Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit (a species widely used for animal fodder). The damage, sometimes striking, soon spread over most of the island. The insect was identified as Heteropsylla cubana Crawford, known throughout the whole of South-East Asia, the Pacific and Australia for its attacks on the genus Leucaena. Control methods are being prepared in two directions: biological control, and the use of resistant varieties. Nevertheless, the situation gives cause for concern, for Madagascar and the African continent are threatened.
