  • Two species of Merrifieldia belonging to the section baliodactyla are studied. The status of Merrifieldia meristodactyla (Zeller, 1852) (Mann, in litteris) is redefined and clarified: the male and female genitalia are illustrated and the first instars are described; the host plant is Salvia lavandulifolia (Wahl) Rouy in the Spanish Cerdagne region. An attempt should be made to look for this pterophorid in France. A new species, Merrifieldia inopinata sp. nov., associated with Thymus vulgaris L. is described from Provence, France. The first instars are described, but the complete developmental cycle is still not entirely known.
