| - The taxonomic status of two taxa described by Carl Gustav Thomson is revisited after examination of their respective type-specimens preserved at the Museum of Lund (Sweden). The first taxon, Carabus fairmairei Thomson, 1875, corresponds to the populations distributed in the Alps around the Mont Cenis. Consequently, the taxon cenisius Kraatz, 1878, becomes a new junior synonym of fairmairei Thomson, 1875, and baudii Kraatz, 1878, from the Mont Viso area, is established as a valid subspecies. The second taxon, Carabus putzeysi Thomson, 1875, described from the %22Alps of Switzerland%22 is a new junior synonym of Carabus castanopterus Villa et Villa, 1833. Consequently, its substitute name, Carabus putzeysianus Gehin, 1876, is also a synonym of castanopterus Villa et Villa, 1833, and the populations of Carabus (Oreocarabus) pedemontanus Ganglbauer, 1892, bona species, from the Haute-Vesubie Valley, in French Southern Alps, require a new subspecific name. A lectotype is designated for Carabus fairmairei Thomson, 1875, and Carabus putzeysi Thomson, 1875. These specimens fit perfectly with the original diagnosis of Thomson. A taxonomic revision is given for the polytypic species Carabus (Oreocarabus) pedemontanus Ganglbauer, 1892, and two new taxa are named: C. (O.) pedemontanus vesubianus nom. n. (for maritimus Schaum, 1860, nec Motschulsky, 1850), and C. (O.) pedemontanus maurinensis subsp. n. The typical series being lost, a neotype is designated for the variable subspecies C. (O.) pedemontanus tendanus Born, 1898. A lectotype is designated for C. (O.) pedemontanus omensis Born, 1901. Following a first observation by Cavazzuti & Meli (1999), it is confirmed that C. (O) pedemontanus Ganglbauer and C. (O.) fairmairei baudii Kraatz, are not really parapatric, neither precisely syntopic in few localities, but are partially sympatric.
