  • This fourth volume of the book series The Geometrid Moths of Europe' presents a modern revision of the two closely related Larentiinae tribes Perizomini and Eupitheciini. The tribe Perizomini is represented in Europe by 18 species belonging to five genera Pseudobaptricia INOUE, 1982, Mesotype HUEBNER, 1825, Perizoma HUEBNER, 1825, Martania MIRONOV, 2000 and Gagitodes WARREN, 1893. The tribe Eupitheciini is represented by 133 species belonging to four genera: Gymnoscelis MABILLE, 1868, Chloroclystis HUEBNER, 1825, Pasiphila MEYRICK, 1883 and Eupithecia CURTIS, 1825. In Europe, the extremely species-rich genus Eupithecia may be divided into 35 species-groups, according to characters of male and female genitalia. In the diagnoses of Eupithecia species-groups closely related species from the rest of the Palaearctic and some species from the Nearctic region are included. One new species is described: Eupithecia senorita sp. n. 27 taxonomic changes are formally proposed, including: One taxon is raised to species rank: Eupithecia weissi PROUT, 1938, stat. n. (formerly subsp. of E. euphrasiata). One taxon is downgraded from species to subspecies rank: Eupithecia graphata olympica TULESCHKOV, 1951, stat. n. 25 species are downgraded to synonymy: Eupithecia golearia LUCAS, 1940 (syn. n. to E. ultimaria), E. kaszabi VOJNITS, 1974 (syn. n. to E. dissertata)-, E. certa VOJNITS, 1981 (syn. n. to E. dissertata); E. atlanticata PINKER, 1969 (syn. n. to E. massiliata); E. atlanticata pinkeriata MOBERG, 1983 (syn. n. to E. massiliata), E. peterseni WAGNER, 1914 (syn. n. to E. sardoa); E. euxinata BOHATSCH, 1893 (syn. n. to E. ericeata), E. laboriosa VOJNITS, 1977 (syn. n. to E. lariciata)-, E. tsushimensis INOUE, 1980 (syn. n. to E. groenblomi); E. fujisana INOUE, 1980 (syn. n. to E. groenblomi); E. kunashiriensis VIIDALEPP & MIRONOV, 1988 (syn. n. to E. groenblomi); E. divina VOJNITS, 1979 (syn. n. to E. selinata); E. maspalomae PINKER, 1961 (syn. n. to E. orana); E. olympica TULESCHKOV, 1951 (syn. n. to E. graphata); E. wehrlii WAGNER, 1931 (syn. n. to E. mystica); E. pliniata STAUDER, 1929 (? syn. n. to E. indigata), E. mandarinca MIRONOV, 2001 (syn. n. to E. nachadira), E. antaggregata INOUE, 1977 (syn. n. to E. pernotata); E. catharinae VOJNITS, 1969 (syn. n. to E. absinthiata); E. barbaria SCHWINGENSCHUSS, 1955 (syn. n. to E. weissi); E. wettsteini VOJNITS, 1974 (syn. n. to E. millefoliata); E. salami BRANDT, 1938 (syn. n. to E. fuscicostata); E. domogledana VOJNITS & SZABO, 1988 (syn. n. to E. fuscicostata); Catarina dolosa VOJNITS, 1977 and C. necessaria VOJNITS, 1977 (syn. n. to Eupithecia subbrunneata DIETZE, 1913). Lectotypes have been designated for Larentia albulata var. dissoluta STRAND, 1902; Eupithecia cocciferata var. semitinctaria MABILLE, 1868, Larentia sinuosaria EVERSMANN, 1848; Eupithecia olympica TULESCHKOV, 1951; Eupithecia nachadira BRANDT, 1941; Eupithecia mekrana BRANDT, 1941; Eupithecia mekrana khorassana BRANDT, 1941; Eupithecia scopariata var.? orientata STAUDINGER, 1901 (identity: Eupithecia sutiliata); Eupithecia millefoliata var. maeoticaria BOHATSCH, 1893 (identity: Eupithecia rnillefoliata). The species are presented with their full name and reference to the original description, fully referenced junior synonyms, unavailable names (including misidentifications), diagnosis, distribution, phenology, biology including host-plants, habitats (with vertical distribution), parasitoids (in certain cases) and differences from similar species. Special emphasis is given to the descriptions of the shape of uncus, valva, everted vesica and shape of sternum A8 of the male, as well as to the bursa copulatrix, shape of tergum A8 and apophyses of the female. For each species line drawings of male and female genitalia, colour photographs of adults, and distribution maps for Europe and adjacent countries are provided. Three species are new for the fauna of Europe: Eupithecia usbeca VIIDALEPP, 1992; E. repentina VOJNITS & DE LAEVER, 1978 and E. sutiliata CHRISTOPH, 1876. The following Perizoma, Pasiphila, Chloroclystis and Eupithecia species are recorded as new for the European and adjacent countries listed below: Portugal: Perizoma hydrata (TREITSCHKE, 1829); Eupithecia extraversaria HERRICH-SCHAFFER, 1852 Spain: Eupithecia extensaria occidua PROUT, 1914 France: Eupithecia weissi PROUT, 1938 Corsica: Eupithecia schiefereri BOHATSCH, 1893 Italy: Eupithecia addictata DIETZE, 1908; E. spodiceata ZERNY, 1933 Austria: Eupithecia scopariata (RAMBUR, 1833) Hungary: Eupithecia pernotata GUENEE, 1858; E. addictata DIETZE, 1908; E. spadiceata ZERNY, 1933 Romania: Eupithecia mystica DIETZE, 1910 Bulgaria: Eupithecia spadiceata ZERNY, 1933 Macedonia: Perizoma lugdunaria (HERRICH-SCHAFFER, 1855); Eupithecia mystica DIETZE, 1910; E. fuscicostata CHRISTOPH, 1887 Greece: Perizoma hydrata (TREITSCHKE, 1829); P. lugdunaria HERRICH-SCHAFFER, 1855); Pasiphila chloerata (MABILLE, 1870); Eupithecia tenuiata (HUEBNER, 1813); E. rnystica DIETZE, 1910; E. indigata (HUEBNER, 1813); E. vulgata (HAWORTH, 1809); E. sutiliata CHRISTOPH, 1876; E. fuscicostata CHRISTOPH, 1887 Ukraine: Eupithecia pauxillaria BOISDUVAL, 1840; E. nachadira BRANDT, 1941; E. irriguata staudingeri BOHATSCH, 1893 Russia (European part); Eupithecia usbeca VIIDALEPP, 1992; E mekrana BRANDT, 1941; E. scalptata CHRISTOPH, 1885; E. sutiliata CHRISTOPH, 1876; Eupithecia spadiceata ZERNY, 1933 Canary Islands: Eupithecia pusillata (DENIS & SCHIFFERMUELLER, 1775) Morocco: Eupithecia abbreuiata STEPHENS, 1831; E. chalikophila WEHRU, 1926 Algeria: Perizoma flavosparsata (WAGNER, 1926); Chloroclystis v-ata (HAWORTH, 1809); Eupithecia minusculata ALPHERAKY, 1882 Tunisia: Eupithecia minusculata ALPHERAKY, 1882; Eupithecia abbreviata STEPHENS, 1831 Turkey (Asian part): Eupithecia karadaghensis MIRONOV, 1988; E. satyrata (HUEBNER, 1813); E. fuscicostata CHRISTOPH, 1887.
