An adult Ruppell's Vulture considered of wild origin has frequented a vulture feeding station at Rougon, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on 22nd February, the 4th and 31st March 2011. Meanwhile, the same bird has been seen at another feeding station at Saint May, Drome, (approximatively 110 km north-west), also in the southern Alps, on 20-29 March 2011: This constitutes the first authenticated record of the species in France, where previous records concerned a suspected escape in 2003-2004 and a bird, which was not photographed, seen by a single observer in 2009. More recently, an immature bird has been well recorded in June and July 2017 in the Pyrenees.
