Probopyrus insularis n. sp. parasiting Macrobrachium faustinum (Saussure de, 1857) from the Caribbean Islands is mainly distinguished by the shape of the: pleotelson in both sexes; carina of the seventh legs in females; palp of the maxillipeds in females; and pleon in males. Characters used to distinguish species of Probopyrus Giard & Bonnier, 1888 are discussed.
