dct:abstract
The results of the study of the rove beetles collected in polypores of Fomes fomentarius from Aiako Harria Natural Park, Guipuzcoa (northern Spain), are presented. Field sampling was carried out using Kaila traps placed on beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) from May to August 2006 and 2007. A total of 2114 specimens belonging to 60 species of 37 genera and 7 subfamilies were collected (Aleocharinae, Omaliinae, Paederinae, Staphylininae, Steninae, Tachyporinae, Trichophyinae). Of them, 40 species are new for the Basque Autonomous Community and 2 are new records for Spain (Gyrophaena (Phaenogyra) polita and Gyrophaena (Gyrophaena) nana). Only 2 species were very abundant (Bolitochara (Ditropalia) obbsqua and Sepedophilus bipustulatus), 13 abundant and 45 little abundant. In addition, 10 species were very frequent, 11 frequent, 19 infrequent and 20 rare. Most of the species are generalists in relation to ecological niches. Corologically, distributions of wide or very wide geographic range predominate, with few distribution elements being more restricted to the Mediterranean basin: 16 Euro-Mediterranean and 4 Spanish.
