T. merula from Nevers (France) is infected by 2 spp. of microfilariae which develop in 8 days (16.degree. C) in C. nubeculosus. Female E. delicata Supperer, 1958, have the longest microfilariae; the male has slightly unequal spicules and the largest infective larvae. The species with the shorter microfilariae, males with more markedly unequal spicules and a relatively short infective larva is considered as E. bartlettae sp. nov. The female of this species is unknown. The identification of the infective larvae is provisional since it is based on the relative frequency of the 2 spp. The infective larvae of Onchocercidae in birds which were described as developing in Culicoides and simulids (genera Splendidofilaria, Chandlerella and Eufilaria) are morphologically similar but the caudal extremities of the 1st and 3rd stages differ between the genera.
