dct:abstract
Nine new taxa of the genus Automeris HUEBNER, (1819) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) are described and figured (names are followed by the type locality in the format: country (province/department/state)): A. anika n. sp. (Mexico (Oaxaca)), A. io potosiana n. ssp. (Mexico (San Luis Potosi)), A. pueblensis n. sp. (Mexico (Puebla)), A. brenneri n. sp. (Mexico (Sonora)), A. siri n. sp. (Mexico (Chiapas)), A. oaxhena n. sp. (Mexico (Oaxaca)), A. wenczeli n. sp. (Mexico (SW Oaxaca)), A. mailinae n. sp. (Peru (Pasco)) and A. lenarti n. sp. (French Guiana (Cayenne)). All holotypes (ex coll. Ronald BRECHLIN, Pasewalk (CRBP), Frank MEISTER, Prenzlau (CFMP) or Eric VAN SCHAYCK, Wetter (CEvS)) are deposited in CRBP m coll. Museum WITT, Munich (Germany), which later, together with this collection, will be included in Zoologische Staatssammlungen Muenchen, Munich, Germany. All the new taxa are currently assigned to species groups sensu LEMAIRE (2002). A further species group, the lauta-species group, is proposed and introduced for the taxa A. lauta JOHNSON & MICHENER, 1948, A. anika n. sp. and A. windiana LEMAIRE, 1971. In addition, the following three taxa are reinstated from synonymy to species status: A. draudtiana LEMAIRE, 1973 stat. nov. (removed from synonymy with A. io (FABRICIUS, 1775)), A. angulatus CONTE, 1906 stat. rev. (removed from synonymy with A. hamata SCHAUS, 1906) and A. pelaezi BEUTELSPACHER-BAIGTS, 1988 stat. rev. (removed from synonymy with A. excreta DRAUDT, 1929).
