Five species were described before in the genus Euplotidium Noland 1937. A sixth, marine, psammophilic species, about 80.mu., is to be found regulatory at Roscoff [France], where it seems to have a narrow ecological niche, partly bound to the Diatoms on which it feeds. With 10 fronto-ventral cirri, 5 transverse cirri, only one left marginal cirrus, 5 latero-dorso kineties, Euplotidium prosaltans sp. nov. is characterized by a broad cortical cavity located below the transverse cirri level, and by small extrusive vesicles, distributed in definite areas. Macronucleus composed of nodes set out in a string of beads. Two micronuclei.
