"Several field investigations have been conducted for the centipedes of the area of Paiolive and its surroundings (Ardeche) during 2009 and 2015 to 2018. A new French endemic Lithobiomorpha is described: Lithobius (Lithobius)aberlenci n. sp. This species is potentially troglophile. Several specimens of L. (L.) peregrinus Latzel, 1880, have been found in the oak forests of Paiolive, confirming its presence in France with a disconnected population from the other known in Europe. Another species of the genus Lithobius (s. str.) Leach, 1814, close to L. (L.) pelidnus Haase, 1880, will require further researches because observed with a poor and badly preserved material and probably belonging a new species. At present, 25 species (including one doubtful) are quoted in the ecocomplex of Paiolive, in which large areas are still unexplored. This paper already shows the strong interest of the Paiolive forests for centipedes, and the necessity to continue their study in this ecocomplex, for forest environments as well as for subterranean habitats." .
